  • Title: Postdoctoral Fellow Position to study central mechanisms involved in cardiovascular regulation
  • Area of knowledge: Physiology
  • FAPESP process: 2015/23467-7
  • Title of the Project: Experimental physiopathology: central mechanisms of cardiovascular and respiratory control involved in experimental models of hypertension and obesity
  • Field: Cardiovascular Physiology
  • Investigator/supervisor: José Vanderlei Menani
  • Institution: Department Physiology and Pathology, Univ Estadual Paulista – UNESP, Campus of Araraquara

A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Physiology and Pathology, at School of Dentistry – Araraquara, São Paulo State University (UNESP). The current position is open for the sub-project entitled “Anti-hypertensive effects of systemic or central inhibition of catalase in SHR or 2K1C hypertensive rats” that is part of the project “Experimental physiopathology: central mechanisms of cardiovascular and respiratory control involved in experimental models of hypertension and obesity” (Project FAPESP, 2015/23467-7). The proposal of the sub-project is to investigate in hypertensive rats (SHR or 2K1C): 1) possible changes in the pressor responses to angiotensin II injected into the lateral ventricle (LV), PVN or RVLM in rats treated previoulsy with ATZ (catalase blocker) subcutaneously (sc); 2) changes in the arterial pressure in animals treated with infusion of H2O2 or losartan (AT1 antagonist) into the LV combined with ATZ sc chronically; 3) changes in ROS and microglia activation in the hipothalamus and RVLM in animals treated with sc ATZ infusion; 4) changes in water and sodium intake in rats treated with ATZ sc. Techniques to be used: estereotaxic technique, imunohistochemistry, microinjections into central nuclei, arterial and venous cannulation and arterial pressure recording in rats. The Laboratory of Physiology deals with interdisciplinary research in integrative physiology involving cardiovascular, respiratory, neuroendocrine and behavioral (thirst and sodium appetite) studies.

Applicants must have a PhD. Scholarship values for postdoctoral level according FAPESP values.

Please send curriculum vitae, a letter declaring research interest and two letters of recommendation by e-mail to Jose Vanderlei Menani until July 15, 2020 (e-mail: jv.menani@unesp.br).
