13 Jun Event Recap – Review Rendezvous: An Introduction to the Role of the Reviewer
Thank you to everyone who attended our “Review Rendezvous: An Introduction to the Role of the Reviewer” webinar. The event was a great success, hosting attendees across many career stages and disciplines to learn about and discuss the process of peer-review for abstracts and manuscripts.
Our session was led by an excellent panel from the Clinical Autonomic Research Editorial Team. Dr. Vaughan Macefeild joined us as managing editor, alongside Dr. Guillaume Lamotte and Dr. Chloe Taylor of the editorial board. Our discussion began with some great thoughts from our panelists regarding responsibilities of the reviewer, the teamwork that occurs between the editor, reviewers, and authors throughout publication, as well as the importance of communication within this team. We also heard from the panelists on overcoming imposter syndrome as a new reviewer, and how reviewing has improved their own academic reading, writing, and careers as a whole. Finally, we can’t talk reviewing without hearing a few notes on providing feedback! We got lots of tips from our panel on their personal do’s and don’ts as reviewers.
If you missed the event, the session recording is available below: https://sfu.zoom.us/rec/share/Ir5DqnfunSSqnEqxZGsInM9DcZT3qUqss0gwkhl_LyVJNJKkMPWilR9U7QqfBQQC.9_fC4G5ZfcLJ765z (Passcode: 31!hk^)
Our event wrapped up by highlighting some opportunities for AAS Members to get involved with reviewing, or the AAS more broadly:
- 2024 Meeting Abstract Review: Help review abstracts submitted for the 35th International Symposium of the Autonomic Nervous System. Contact Guillaume Lamotte (lamotte14@gmail.com) by June 17 to join
- AAS Trainee Committee: Meets on a monthly basis to plan initiatives that enrich Trainee membership. Contact Erin Williams (elwillia@sfu.ca) for more information about joining.
- Other AAS Collectives: There are 4 special interest groups and 10 committees available for AAS members to join. See the AAS Website for details about specific groups and how to join.
Thank you very much to our panelists from Clinical Autonomic Research, as well as Dr. Glen Cook (Chair, Education Committee) and Erin Williams (Chair, Trainee Committee) for moderating the event. As well, a special thank you to Amber Millen, the AAS Trainee Committee, Education Committee, and Science Committee, alongside the AAS Board of Directors – without your contributions, this event would not have been possible!
We are thrilled to have brought our AAS members together with another informative online engagement session. It is always exciting to connect outside of our Annual Meeting, and we look forward to seeing everyone next time!
Best,
Erin Williams
